Parkroad were left parking by the roadside as their opponents wazalendo cruised into the playoffs.....

With the match schedule being well charted, the Sunday evening weather played along to favor the clash that was highly anticipated. Park road H.C and Wazalendo had a date and going by the percentage of fans at the VIP stand, this clash would bring back memories of the former Kenya Breweries team that was. Present were Edwin Were and Wycliffe Momanyi formerly of Kenya breweries.  In the parkroad team were Tom Olal and Bob who was making a comeback.         With wazalendo needing to book a playoff ticket & their opponents fighting relegation, the 3pts at stake were all too precious. The match kicked off with the ball on wazalendo’s side. Fatigue off the festive season was evident with both sides playing a scrappy low- paced match quite unfamiliar with wazalendo’s philosophy of play. This half produced no clear cut scoring chance for both sides as no penalty corner was produced. After the break, wazalendo got into play a notch higher and a quick passing game got their opponents defending. The 0-0 tie was broken when a loose ball was collected down the left flank by Douglas Nyarangi who raced forward and cut in off David Omwaka to lay a pass to unmarked team-mate Wycliffe Mbeda who received well and drove a low hard shot past parkroad’s custodian. This raised the morale within  wazalendos ranks as parkroad fell back to defend the numerous attacks that were made on the right hand flank.        Another well stitched break down the right and a swift skilled dribble by Duncan Simiyu gave him space to nail a low drive into the bottom right hand corner leaving the opponents custodian buffled. The opponents, led by captain protested this goal saying the strike was made off the D-Line mark. The goal stood after referee  P.Nyasimi consulted fellow umpire Soimo .At this point, parkroad had nothing to defender .Their attacks almost bore fruit off a controversial penalty corner awarded to them but captain Cyrus Kanyi pulled his shot inches off the near post. The final buzzer sounded and that marked a probable play-off slot for wazalendo and more worries for parkroad who are fighting relegation. Earlier on, Kenya Police climbed up to top spot with an emphatic 9-1 win over their day’s opponents Karate Axiom-who lie at the bottom of the 12 team league table, and are sure relegation candidates this year.
